New training for safe information handling

A new NHSScotland training package to support staff in handling personal information is now available to all staff though your Board’s online learning centre or learnPro website.

The e-learning module, called 'Safe Information Handling,' is designed for use by all members of staff and sets out NHSScotland's requirements for data sharing and confidentiality.  The package provides simple information about basic principles of data protection, guidance on good practice, sources of advice and further information.

The Scottish Government's e-Health Directorate, which commissioned Safe Information Handling, commented:

'Safe Information Handling is a comprehensive guide to why information is so important, the risks to its safety and what can be done to protect it. Completing this training provides you with new skills and ensures you comply fully with legislative and regulatory requirements'.

Staff who have already received training for data protection and confidentiality can check their knowledge in a short pre-module test.  A hard copy version of Safe Information Handling will also be made available later in the year for staff without access to computers at work.

Further information about Safe Information Handling is available from Rob Coward, Education Projects Manager at NES (rob.coward@nes.scot.nhs.uk).
