Dental Prescribing app launched by SDCEP

Following the publication of the second edition of the 'Drug Prescribing For Dentistry' guidance in August, the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) has launched the 'Dental Prescribing' app for iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch®. The app aims to facilitate drug prescribing within primary care dental practice by providing mobile access to the latest dentally relevant information compiled from the British National Formulary (BNF) and BNF for Children (BNFC). Advice on the management of a range of dental conditions is presented in an easy to use, problem-oriented style. Drug regimens are displayed in a 'prescription-like' format to aid prescribing for both adults and children in primary care and, for the first time, are linked to the BNF website for information on drug interactions. Advice on the management of medical emergencies, including drug administration, is also provided.

The app is aimed at practitioners in the primary care sector and the prescribing guidance applies to all patients, including adults, children and those with special needs, who would normally be treated in this sector.

An initiative of the National Dental Advisory Committee and NHS Education for Scotland, SDCEP provides guidance on a variety of topics to support the delivery of quality patient care.
