Jill Booth - Pharmacist

Jill Booth, a pharmacist working on public health projects in Glasgow

Pharmacists have a professional obligation to maintain a record of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and from July 2009 these records had to be
available for review. For Jill Booth, a pharmacist working on public health projects in Glasgow, it was something she was already used to. She had been keeping CPD records for a few years but she was unsure if she was doing everything right.

That was when a special training session put together by NES came to her aid. NES had organised a series of CPD surgeries to update pharmacists across Scotland on the mandatory CPD requirements and help them to record some online entries. It proved exactly what Jill was looking for.

"I have always been interested in CPD" said Jill "but I wanted to know what I needed to submit and if the records I had been keeping were good enough."

The pharmacists who attended the two-hour hands-on course that Jill took part in had a wide range of differing needs. Some had not been keeping any records and were starting from scratch while others, like Jill, were looking for reassurance. They all left better informed and better prepared for recording and submitting CPD records.

"It was really valuable," said Jill. "We were at all different stages and the tutors were very approachable, available to answer everyone's questions and provide guidance. For me, it increased my awareness of CPD requirements and helped me to know that I was on the right track. It has increased my confidence and made me more focussed in what I am recording.

"Making CPD entries is easier than expected - thanks to the CPD surgery. It was really worthwhile."
