An Educational Development Lead's journey
The EDL covering the two board areas of Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the Golden Jubilee National Hospital was first to be appointed in April 2010. HCS staff in these two Boards exceed a third of the HCS staff in Scotland.
I am Jackie Wales; my background is in LifeSciences, professionally I am a Senior Biomedical Scientist and Departmental Training Manager for Haematology at the Royal Hospital for SickChildren, a role which I still fulfil 30% of my time.
I took the EDL post following my experience of IBMS in Scotland's Training Forum, and integrated Biomedical Science degrees. Early on as EDL, I focused on arrangements for the other two streams within Healthcare Science i.e. the Physiological and Physical Sciences.
