About us

NES Engagement with NHS Boards

Background and Aim

  • The NES engagement process began in 2007, and covers all 14 territorial boards, as well as the Special Health Boards.
  • The aim is to strengthen joint working at a strategic level, 'listen to our customers' and establish routine collaborative working between nominated NES senior contacts and nominated board senior contacts. The NES engagement team's signposting and listening role allows us to systematically check on what the boards' top priorities are, identify potential areas for support, feedback on any key issues arising and listen to the needs and opinions of our key partners.
  • The key priorities and information gleaned from engagement activity help to ensure that current NES services are fit-for-purpose and also inform our future corporate planning processes. For example, board priorities identified through the engagement process are reflected in our current Corporate Plan and Strategic Framework.

In addition, our Chair and Chief Executive attend annual engagement meetings with their health board counterparts, and our NES regional engagement team work closely with board colleagues in the West, South East and North regions. These three mechanisms of strategic engagement help to complement the extensive uni-professional work between NES and all health boards in Scotland.
