About us

Patient Focus, Public Involvement

The National Health Service Reform (Scotland) Act 2004 sets out specific duties for NHS Boards in involving people during planning and delivering services

For NES, this means involving relevant stakeholders in all our work, from NHSScotland staff, to NES employees and patients/general public as appropriate, and applying recommended standards for public involvement in NHSScotland policies, projects and services.

We greatly value our partnerships with stakeholder organisations and the participation of NHS staff, voluntary organisations, lay people and others in its work. The knowledge and experience contributed by external organisations and individuals is important in meeting the needs of patients, professionals and healthcare services.  We promote the participation of our stakeholders through:

  • Membership of committees and project steering groups;
  • Professional advisory groups;
  • Consultation exercises and surveys;
  • Workshops;
  • Conferences;
  • Stakeholder events

We achieved Investors in Volunteers status in 2010.

Members of the public are welcomed to meetings of the NES Board and its standing committees. Please contact David Ferguson, Board Secretary, for details about forthcoming meetings.
